CBITS started as a modest institute offering diploma programmes in Business Administration and Computer Science and has since evolved into a full-fledged academic institution with undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional development programmes.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly competent, visionary, and integrity-driven Bursar to join our founding team.
The successful candidate will provide strategic financial leadership and establish robust financial systems for a fast-growing postgraduate university committed to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
Provide strategic leadership for the University’s financial planning, budgeting, and resource management.
Develop and implement sound financial policies, systems, and internal controls.
Prepare annual budgets, financial forecasts, and periodic management reports.
Ensure prudent management of the University’s financial resources.
Accounting & Compliance
Oversee all accounting operations, including payroll, treasury, accounts payable, receivables, and financial reporting.
Ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory financial requirements.
Coordinate external audits and implement audit recommendations.
Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
Revenue & Financial Sustainability
Develop strategies to improve internally generated revenue.
Monitor tuition revenue, grants, endowments, donations, and other income streams.
Advise Management on investment opportunities, financial risks, and long-term sustainability.
Support fundraising initiatives and financial planning for capital projects.
Administration & Governance
Serve as the University’s Chief Financial Officer and provide financial advice to the Vice-Chancellor, Governing Council, and Management.
Supervise finance and accounts staff while promoting accountability and efficiency.
Develop financial management systems suitable for a modern, technology-driven university.
Prepare reports for Council meetings, accreditation exercises, and regulatory agencies.
Requirements
Essential
A good honours Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
Professional qualification such as ICAN, ACCA, ANAN, or an equivalent recognized accounting certification.
Minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 5 years in a senior financial management position.
Strong knowledge of university financial administration.
Excellent understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, taxation, payroll, auditing, and financial regulations.
Demonstrated leadership, integrity, and strategic financial management skills.
Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications.
Added Advantage
Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
Experience serving as Deputy Bursar, Bursar, Director of Finance, or Chief Financial Officer in a higher education institution.
Experience implementing ERP or financial management systems.
Knowledge of Nigerian University Commission (NUC) financial guidelines and university governance.
